My Story
In the fall of 2011, I decided it was time to make a change.
Earlier that year, I had surgery on my foot/ankle/achilles tendon and just didn't feel good. I was tired all the time, I felt like the depression I had struggled with my entire life was creeping back in, was having a hard time bouncing back physically from the surgery and just generally felt off. And then I watched Food, Inc. It was a life changing.
I started looking at food and how we treat our food in a whole new way. Almost immediately after watching the documentary, I stopped eating meat--no pork, no beef, no chicken, seafood was out as were eggs, most dairy (I'm a bit of a cheeseaholic) and I haven't looked back since. I'm almost ashamed to admit this, but making this decision was one of the first times I've said "Nope, this is how I want to live my life and I'm sticking to it!". If only I could muster that resolve when it comes to a fitness routine, I'd be golden but that is another story for another time.
I think the transition from a "traditional American diet" to a "vegetarian diet" was harder on my friends and family than it was on me. I started making more meals at home, reading labels and embracing my inner rabbit while my friends and family struggled to let go of the fear of making the wrong thing and constantly asking "can Meg eat this?!"
About Meg
I am a thirty something perpetual college student (I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up) living near the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan in northern Michigan. I live here with my giant teddy bear of a dog Bandit, who has an affinity for ginger snaps and sautéed mushrooms.
